The purpose of this thread is to provide Hammerheads with more information on David Rasche. Kiyardo has suggested dubbing David Rasche fans The Rasche Idiot Gutting and Gunslinging Enforcement Revolution, or TRIGGER, which is a fairly good name.

Posts to this thread will concentrate on reviewing his film and TV roles, scans of photos or interviews with David, and other biographical information. David Rasche was born on August 7th in Missouri, so we have plenty of time to start reviewing his many performances.

Here is a link to a recent David Rasche interview:

http://actionadventure.about.com/cs/weekly.../a/aa050104.htm

Below is a scan of a local TV Guide article back in 1986 which gives some brief biographical information on David Rasche. Note that he was an English instructor and a divinity student. He has Master's Degrees in both English and Theology.

The 2003 movie Just Married starred Brittany Murphy, Ashton Kutcher and David Rasche. This movie is available on DVD. The movie told the story of newlyweds experiencing the honeymoon from hell. David played the father of bride Brittany Murphy.

The movie was an above average comedy – a “B”, or 3 out of 4 bullets on the Hammer Scale. David Rasche was hilarious as the hard-to-please father who feels his daughter is marrying a jerk. Brittany Murphy is a funny actress who portrays wacky women very well. She brought a certain zest to the role and was charming.

The movie featured 2 good songs on the score – the song Save Me played at about 7 minutes into the movie. This became the theme song for the TV series Smallville. Also, Haddaway’s song What is Love? Played at about 1 hour and 9 minutes into the movie. The movie also had some nice location shooting of the French Alps and attractive photos of art museums in Venice, Italy.

Most of the jokes were just so-so, but a few of the jokes, such as an old lady flipping the bird to the newlyweds (at about 48 minutes) and Brittany’s informing customs agents about hidden hashish (at 1 hour and 20 minutes) were pretty funny. And the movie ended on a nice note with the message that a bad honeymoon shouldn’t break a marriage.

The picture below is of David Rasche escorting daughter Brittany Murphy down the aisle at her marriage.

This picture occurs at the end of the movie when David Rasche develops new-found respect for his son-in-law. David looks great and very distinguished.

O say can you see how Sledge Hammer fights treachery!

Let's all hail that Star Spangled Hammer!
His gun shots cause such a clamor!
On every Fourth of July
Sledge shoots bullets into the sky!
'Cause of the flag he is enamored!

In a letter to the President of France,
Sledge wrote, "Come on! Give war a chance!"

This brave lawman took his gun
and fought the bad guys and won.
“Call me Sledge.”
is all he said
as he rode off into the setting sun.

Unfortunately it's a fact
that Sledge Hammer isn't "Mr Tact"!

You don't want Sledge Hammer in your face!
He shoots out insults just like mace!
The wisecracks fly out with such a zing
they hit the mark and leave an awful sting!
In a battle of wits, he's a fighter ace!

Sledge has such a nasty wit!
Too bad he's short on etiquette!

Sledge is strong and silent!
He's always tough and violent!

“Don’t confuse me,” Sledge said to Trunk
“with logic or facts or all that junk!”
His words he will not mince
when stating his love of violence,
“Violence is the answer, and that’s no bunk!”

“Just shoot it!” is the Hammer Solution
for bringing problems to a resolution.

Alan Spencer’s Hammer was hurled
and fired a shot heard 'round the world!

Sledge Hammer! is a national treasure!
He brings such joy to our leisure!
This Hammer really pounds!
He shoots zingers as his rounds!
He’s as good as gold by any measure!

What do you expect from a groupie?
They usually act so darn loopy!

In Sledge, Rattle and Roll, the rock star’s tootsie
came on to Sledge by playing footsie.
Dori looked on with dismay
as the groupie made Sledge’s day!
Sledge responded, “Will you marry me?”

There’s a lesson for Doreau!
Playing footsie will make him your beau!

I'm quite impressed by David's education, though not surprised. I always thought he had an intelligence in his acting unlike the high school dropout actors who get such huge press.

I think the Sledge movie (if it becomes a reality) would do for David's career what Pulp Fiction did for Travolta.

Now let's see...limerick... with apologies to Rep.

If David played Sledge in a movie
I think it would be very Groovy
He'd pull out his gun
And make the scum run
and not even fire his Uzi (hey, you try rhyming with movie)

(I knew i shouldn't have tried this) sad.gif

Go ahead, give it a shot! Who knows? You might win a lot!

Imagine Sledge as a game show host!
“Shooting for Dollars” coast to coast!
Shoot at targets just for fun
then count the bucks that you’ve won!
“Go ahead, make my day!” is Sledge's riposte!

Captain Trunk caused Sledge dismay
when he blew Sledge’s high score away!

In 1990 David Rasche starred in the movie Masters of Menace as Buddy Wheeler, the head of a motorcycle gang. This movie is available in VHS. The movie was a screwball comedy somewhat similar in plot to Animal House, only it involved hard-partying bikers rather than a frat house. A moronic, anal-retentive district attorney is determined to railroad the biker gang into jail to show he is tough on crime, and thereby to win re-election.
This movie was written by Tino Insana, who worked on Sledge Hammer!. It was funny and I rate it a B+. David Rasche is hilarious and keeps the movie rolling along. There were small parts played by Jim Belushi, John Candy and Dan Ackroyd – it was a reunion of sorts for the Second City comedy troupe.

In this still, biker Buddy Wheeler (David Rasche) is explaining to his wife, Catherine Bach (aka Daisy Duke of Dukes of Hazzard fame) how he intends to stay out of jail.

Here is a still of David talking to his lawyer. This was filmed around 1990, and David looks terrific. Note that the character David played was a zany head of a biker gang, so it was similar to his role of Sledge Hammer, a zany police detective.

Near the end of the movie, Smokey the Bear appears to the bikers and offers them advice on how to solve their problems. No kidding.

I am sending this VHS tape to Donna, the incredible Stasher.

Come on, you Hammerheads! Don't hedge!
Grab a pistol and recite the Pledge for Sledge!

We pledge allegiance to Sledge Hammer
of the United States of America,
and to the havoc for which he stands –
one magnum per individual - the wrath of God -
with liberty to mete out justice to all!

Dori, Dori, Hallelujah! His truth is marching on!

Standing up, holding a magnum over my heart,

(reciets the Sledge Pledge as ordered by Replicant biggrin.gif )

We pledge allegiance to Sledge Hammer
of the United States of America,
and to the havoc for which he stands –
one magnum per individual - the wrath of God -
with liberty to mete out justice to all!

(Fires Magnum 6 times in the air, hitting 7 scum suckers in the process)
